Before and After
Neglected feet
These are
excessively overgrown feet. This horse was rescued out of a tiny backyard
pen. He is a 5 yr old
stud who hadnŐt been trimmed in a year.
Wade got the hacksaw out This is the result
Much, much better Glue On Shoes
with Sole-Guard made by Vettec Abscess
This horse came to
the shop barely able to walk. We
were not the previous farrier. As Wade pulled the shoe off, pus shot
out. This shows the abscess hidden under the shoe. Equicast
This is a new product
we are trying. This is Equicast, which is very similar to a regular cast that
humans get. You can see we started with feet that are very low slung in the
heels, lots of toe, walls that fall apart and laminitis. The idea is to
stabilize the hoof wall so that this horse can grow out solid hoof wall. For detailed
information go to Equicast.us Donkeys
These
poor donkeys are not ours, nor our work, but we felt compelled to display them
anyway, as an example of extreme neglect. Freddie
and Barnaby were recently rescued by the wonderful folks at Auleda's Acres. As you can see, they had not had a trim
recently, possibly EVER. They have a wonderful farrier, Mr. Nelson Preston,
who was brave enough to undertake this daunting task. For the complete story
please visit Freddie and Barnaby's page More Donkeys
This is a donkey who recently
came to Painted Promise Ranch Toe Dragger
This horse dragged his hind toe off due to a stifle injury.
Wade rebuilt the entire toe, set the shoe to where the toe would ideally be,
and forged a toe clip to hold the artificial hoof material in place. After 6
months and 3 shoeings, the horse has regrown his toe. X- rays
One with rotation, one without.
Which is which? Barbed Wire Cut
This horse I came across in a now closed rescue
facility. His injury resulted from hanging a foot up on an 8 ft high fence
topped with barbed wire. I took off as much dead material as I dared, still
leaving him something to walk on in the heels.
